Grand Traditions, Owners:
Tate and Lecil Vinson
A business of celebrations!
Tate and Lecil Vinson found a need in the bridal industry. They
had noticed that local brides were frustrated with high costs, inconvenient
locations, and facilities that could host a wedding but not the
reception. He also saw a need for facilities that would be available
for people who had no specific religious affiliation. Vincent began
to study the potential business opportunity of providing a special
event facility at affordable prices.
Mr. Vinson came to the North Central Texas College/Small Business
Development Center looking for assistance getting a loan. He also
needed help with marketing on a limited budget, management, and
customer service issues. The counselor worked with Mr. Vinson generating
ideas for creative marketing, networking, in the community, and
methods of providing adequate customer service while maintaining
his full time job with the city of Denton.
The creation of the business plan was primarily targeted at getting
a loan for the construction of the building. Several drafts and
bank applications later, Mr. Vinson secured his loan and the building
of Grand Traditions began.
The facility provides elegant yet affordable ballroom space that
can be rented for weddings, banquets, receptions, business meetings,
etc. Outside catering contacts are provided while amenities such
as audio-visual equipment are provided. The facility also provides
a place for businesses to host large meetings.
Grand Traditions opened its doors in March of 1999 in six short
months they were hosting an average of six to eight weddings per
month. Business continues to. Clients range from major companies,
to high schools, private individuals, church groups, and of course
weddings and receptions! Providing a beautiful, affordable facility
fully handicapped accessible, and has proven to be a business dream
come true for owners Tate and Lecil!
“The SBDC counselor was great at keeping me motivated. I am not
sure this would have become a reality without her motivation, especially
after getting turned down a few times by different banks. Without
her thoughtfulness and assistance, I don’t believe my dream would
have become possible.”—Tate Vinson
