Distance Education/Web-based learning has grown exponentially over the past few years.

This relatively new format of education allows many students to receive training and/or explore

educational opportunities that would not be possible through traditional onsite classes. Students are no longer restricted by location. They may enroll and take distance education courses wherever they have access to the Internet, regardless of their location. Each Distance Education vendor addresses specific student needs aimed at improving skill sets, and providing training for new career paths.

Is Distant Learning a good fit for you?

Are you a good fit for Distance Education learning? Answer the following questions. If you answer yes to 7 or more questions, you should be a good fit. If you answer yes to less than seven questions, you might want to further investigate the requirements to make sure you will be successful in this format.

  1. Can you access Internet email and the World Wide Web (WWW) 7 days a week?
  2. If you do not have your own computer, can you get to a source or arrange to use some other computer at least two or more times a week?
  3. Do you know how to send and receive email messages?
  4. Do you know how to attach a file to an email message?
  5. Are you proficient using standard computer applications that include word processing, spreadsheets etc.?

Online courses are typically not transcripted by NCTC as the student is registering and paying directly through the online vendor. If a student needs to have a course transcripted by NCTC, please contact the Lifelong Learning office at 940-668-4272.
