Clinical Medical Assistant

This program is intended for students who want to prepare for an exciting, challenging and rewarding career in healthcare. This program will train students to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical responsibilities of a medical office. Instruction includes among other things preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures and the technical aspects of phlebotomy and the use of the electrocardiograph (EKG) machine. Students will review important topics including phlebotomy, EKG, pharmacology, professional workplace behavior, ethics and the legal aspects of healthcare. This program includes 140 hours of classroom lecture and hands on labs and a 160 hour clinical externship opportunity at a local healthcare service provider for those students who qualify. To be eligible for the 160 hour clinical rotation, students must successfully complete the 140 hour program, submit to a thorough background check, drug screening and meet other requirements.

An information session will be held for all interested students on Jan 21, at 6:00 p.m.

*Note: Upon successful completion of this program (both 140 hours of classroom instruction and 160 hours of clinical training), students would be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national examination.

This comprehensive program prepares students to function as EKG Technicians and to take the American Society of Phlebotomy Technician (ASPT) - Electrocardiograph (EKG) Technician exam and other National Certification Exams. Medical Billing and Coding (Insurance Coding/Advanced Medical Coding)

This combined billing and coding course offers the skills needed to solve insurance billing problems, how to manually file claims (using the CPT and ICD-9 manual), complete common insurance forms, trace delinquent claims, appeal denied claims and use generic forms to streamline billing procedures. Nurse Aide Certification

This course is designed to prepare students for the certification examination; addressing both written and clinical skills required for those that are planning to be long term care nursing assistants. Successful completion of this course is a prerequisite to taking the state exam for the certification to work as a nurse aid. The course content encompasses 80 hours of instruction (of which 56 hrs. are lecture/lab. and 24 hrs. are clinical). Students do not need previous nursing home experience or be currently employed to take this course. The state exam fee, liability insurance, training manuals, textbook, and scrubs are included in the price of the class. Clinicals are held at local long-term care facilities.(80 hrs.)
