Welcome from the North Central Texas College Libraries

If the information on this page does not answer your question, please ask for assistance at the Circulation Desk or contact one of the campus librarians. After all, there is no such thing in a library as a silly question. So, please let us help.

  • To contact your campus librarian... click the Library Contacts link in the upper right-hand corner or click here.

Instruction/Orientation Sessions

NCTC Libraries are essential in allowing students to meet information literacy objectives. Professional librarians are available on all campuses to assist students in finding and citing sources of information. Faculty are invited to schedule instruction sessions by contacting a librarian at the appropriate campus. Please schedule at least one week prior to the occurrence in the course calendar. We can tailor these presentations to your assignments, and in some cases, can even bring the presentation to your classroom for a hands-on tour of resources. Individual assistance in using Library resources is also available during normal hours of operation in person or via email or phone.

Audio-Visual Equipment

NCTC Libraries offer various audio-visual equipment to be checked out by faculty for classroom use. Media equipment (TV/DVD/VCR) is also available for use within the Library. Instructors at the Corinth campus should contact the AV office. Instructors at the Gainesville and Bowie campuses should contact their campus library as early as possible to schedule audiovisual equipment to ensure availability.

Reserves

Faculty members may place supplemental class materials such as articles, book chapters, and other items "on reserve" at their campus library. Circulation of an item can be restricted for various periods of time (i.e. Library Use Only, Overnight Use, or One Week Checkout). All reserve status requests are subject to the copyright restrictions detailed by Title 17, US Code.

  • Note: All materials are processed on the Gainesville campus; please allow five days for an item to be ready for student use.

Each reserved item will need to be submitted to a library staff member with a Reserve Form detailing its use: its check out period, the length of time to be held on Reserve, and to whom the materials belong. Please fill out this form as completely as possible in order to expedite the Reserves process.

Questions? Feel free to contact the your campus library or Cecilia Hoenig concerning reserves.

Checking Out Materials

NCTC Libraries house nearly 50,000 titles including books, videocassettes, DVDs, periodicals, computer software, and reference materials. In order to make these materials available to as many patrons as possible, materials check out for a limited amount of time. To extend use of materials beyond the normal circulation period, contact your campus librarian.

Please note that overdue notices will be sent as reminders; a response is both encouraged and appreciated.

  • Note: Faculty members (and NCTC staff) may be asked to present photo identification in order to check out NCTC Library materials. Photo Identification is required in order to obtain and/or use a TexShare Card.

Please feel free to remind students that they must present a current NCTC identification card or a photo ID to check out materials, including materials placed on reserve.

Inter-Campus Borrowing

To obtain materials from another campus, you may contact your campus librarian or place a request through the Online Catalog. For directions on using the Online Catalog to place an inter-campus request, click here.

A courier delivers materials between Gainesville and Corinth Monday through Friday and between Gainesville and Bowie Monday through Thursday. Check with a campus librarian concerning courier arrival and departure times.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

Materials not owned by the NCTC Libraries can be borrowed from other libraries across the United States. Interlibrary loan services are available to NCTC faculty, staff, and students at no charge. All requests must fall within accepted interlibrary loan standards and copyright regulations.

  • Note: Please allow up to two weeks for delivery of Interlibrary Loan materials.

File an ILL request by contacting your campus librarian, through the Online Catalog, or through OCLC WorldCat Direct Request.

  • Click here for directions on placing an ILL request through the Online Catalog.
  • Click here for directions on placing an ILL request through Direct Request. Note: To use Direct Request via remote access you will need to know your Network ID and Password.

TexShare Cards

NCTC Library users in good standing can request a TexShare Card which will allow them to use materials in other TexShare participating libraries within the state. The lending library’s policies concerning types of materials that circulate, circulation time period, and fines apply. Check with a librarian on your campus for more information.

General Access Computer Labs (GACL) for NCTC Students

NCTC Student General Access Computer Labs are located on each NCTC campus. Check with your campus library for availability and sign-in guidelines. Students may use their Network ID to access the computers. GACL hours correspond closely to Library operating hours. Labs usually open one-half hour after the Library opens and close one-half hour before the Library closes.

  • Note: To access the computers in the GACL, students must know their Network ID and their Student ID. This information can be found on the student's NCTC ID or can be obtained through the Admission's Office, the IS Help Desk, or on class rosters.

STARLINK (Professional Development Programs)

NCTC participates in a consortium of community colleges which provides professional development programs in live, video, and streaming video format.  The Library also maintains a collection of these videos. Simply search for "starlink" in the Online Catalog or click here for a listing of available Starlink materials.

Collection Development

The subject area expertise of faculty is very important in maintaining a Library collection of relevant materials—books, journals, electronic, and audiovisual—to support student research needs. Recommendations and suggestions for additions and/or deletions are always welcome. Contact Diane Roether at Gainesville (940-668-4338 or x4338), Beverly Snow at Corinth (940-498-6231 or x6231), or Robin Studdard at Bowie (940-872-4002 or x5215).

Photocopiers

Coin-operated photocopiers are available in each campus Library. For information concerning photocopies for instructional use, contact your department chair/program coordinator for procedures, access codes, locations, and guidelines.

Copyright

Title 17 of the U. S. Code governs the copyright of materials and regulates their use. Most educational uses of copyrighted material fall under the auspices of the "fair use doctrine". NCTC policies dictate that all employees must comply with the provisions of the United States Copyright Law. Here are some resources that may be useful in determining whether or not the use of copyrighted material constitutes "fair use."
