Testing Services Offered by the Counseling Center Staff

Counseling Center staff offer limited testing on each campus based on room and staff availability.  It is important to note not all tests given by Counseling Center Staff are proctored. 

The Counseling Center, also serves as the center for administering tests, including:

 

Makeup Exams: For students who miss classroom tests, are administered by the Counseling Center on an appointment basis and are NOT proctored.  Appointments are on a first-come-first-served basis.  Students are required to have picture identification to test in the Counseling Center.  Tests are to be brought into or taken out of the Counseling Center only by NCTC faculty or staff. 

INSTRUCTORS: (Sending Tests) You may attach the Test Referral Form to your test (click on the appropriate form below) and deliver it, email it, or send it by courier to the Counseling Center where the student is going to test. Please be aware you may send us an email to test one student but if you have multiple students, you need to send us the paper copy with the Testing Referral form on each copy of the test with the student’s name and testing information (time allowed, materials, etc.).

Please be very specific regarding the materials a student may use to complete your test. Only the items specified by you will be allowed to be taken into the testing room with the student. Gainesville Form Corinth Form Bowie Form

INSTRUCTORS: (Returning Tests)   Please pick up completed tests from the Counseling Center during normal business hours or we will send the completed tests via NCTC courier to any other NCTC campus once per week. Tests will be sent out to the instructor at the campus they specify at the end of each week.  No test results will be faxed or sent by any other method than by courier to one of the NCTC campuses. Please fill out the following form for each student who will be taking a test. Please note that each campus has a seperate form.

STUDENTS:  Please schedule your tests with the appropriate Counseling Center well in advance to avoid times when Counseling Center staff are involved in administering tests like the GED, ACT, Nurse Entrance Tests, Quick THEA, etc. and the room used for testing is not available. 

Remember to have PICTURE IDENTIFICATION when you come to take any exam.

THEA(Texas Higher Education Assessment) The THEA test must be taken by all students (except those who are exempt)or waived,who enroll at public colleges in Texas.  The test is designed to measure the ability of students—as indicated by their skills in reading, writing and math—to do college-level course work.   Students who demonstrate deficiencies in any of these areas will be required to enroll in at least one college prep course each semester until they are able to pass all sections of the THEA test.

To register for the THEA Test you may register online at www.thea.nesinc.com .  Send a $29.00 (check, money order, or credit card) to NES along with the registration packet.  See deadlines on back of registration booklet. Picture ID is required for all testing.

 

THEA QuickTestNorth Central Texas College administers the THEA Quick Test exams throughout the semester. This is in addition to the three normally scheduled THEA examinations held across the state throughout the year.

Contact the appropriate campus Business Office where you wish to take the exam, pay your $10 nonrefundable, nontransferable registration fee, and sign up in advance On the day of the exam bring $29.00 (check, money order, or credit card payable to NES), picture ID, 4-function non-programmable, non-scientific calculator, and two #2 pencils.

THEA Preparation

A full-length practice version of the THEA® Test is available through their official website at www.thea.nesinc.com (select "Practice Test"), or you can work through the free THEA® Preparation Modules located on NCTC’s Student Success Center site at

http://www.nctc.edu/Student_Services/Access/StudentSuccessCenter.htm. NCTC’s Student Success Center also hosts several THEA® Preparation workshops throughout each semester. Students must pre-register for these FREE workshops by contacting the Student Success Center at (940) 668-4209, and are required to purchase the Official THEA™ Test Study Guide from the NCTC bookstore in order to participate. Room locations will then be given to those students who pre-register.

 

 

COMPASSNorth Central Texas College administers the COMPASS exam each semester during the week of regular and late registration.  This exam is administered to students who have not met THEA requirements.    In order for the COMPASS scores to be validated a student must attend NCTC for one semester.  You may register for a scheduled COMPASS by going by the Business Office at the campus where you'll be taking the test, and paying your $10  nonrefundable registration fee.

On day of test bring $29.00 (cash, check, money order, or credit card payable to NCTC) and picture I.D.

NCTC PLACEMENT TEST – North Central Texas College requires testing prior to entering English and Math courses for students in a THEA waived certificate program.

On day of test bring $39.00 (cash, check, money order, or credit card payable to NCTC), picture ID and two #2 pencils.

CLEP – North Central Texas College is permitted to administer the College Level Placement Exam (CLEP) for college credit for a number of College Level Courses.

ACT – North Central Texas College administers the ACT exam.  Registration packets with National dates of testing may be picked up in the Counseling Center or you may register online.

GEDThe Counseling Center at NCTC's Gainesville Campus is a testing center for the General Educational Development (GED) test for high school equivalency.  The GED is offered at NCTC to persons who:

  • are not enrolled in high school, and
  • have not graduated from high school, and
  • are at least 18 years old (17-year-olds contact the Counseling Center for requirements)
  • meet state requirements regarding age, residency, and the length of time since leaving school.

You must fill out the online demographic form at the University of Texas website www.utk16.org/scoring Prior to attending Pre-registration at NCTC. Once you have filled out the demographic form and selected your testing site (North Central Texas College is 0710) you have 60 days to test using that form. Only students who have completed the on-line demographic form, chosen NCTC as their testing site, and who have pre-registered will be able to take the GED test at North Central Texas College.

On day of pre-registration orientation bring $85.00 (check, cash, or money order) payable to NCTC, valid Texas ID and social security card.  Re-testing fees are $15.00 per test.  A $15.00 certificate fee is also required for retesters who did not orginally take the GED at North Central Texas College. There will also be a $20 rescheduling fee for those students who do not show up for the test date that they pre-registered for.

The GED Test Schedule is available in the Counseling Center with the complete rules for testing and retesting. The test is administered in the Counseling Center – Room 108 of the ASC (100) Building on campus. Call 940-668-4216 for additional information.

GED is only offered on the GAINESVILLE Campus

Departmental Exams for Credit – North Central Texas College allows students who believe they already possess the knowledge and/skills taught in certain courses or programs offered by NCTC to challenge these for credit by examination/experience.  Students must first get permission from the departmental head for the course involved, then make an appointment with the Testing Center to take the test.

Bring $50.00 (cash or check) and picture ID.
