Work-Study Program
 
What is work-study?

Federal Work-Study (FWS) and Texas College Work-Study (CWS) are work programs where the student is eligible to earn up to the amount listed on his/her award letter. All jobs are located on various campus locations and pay minimum wage (currently $ 7.25 an hour).

 
How many hours per week can I work?

Students can work up to a maximum of 19 hours a week and are paid on the 25th of each month. Please consult your time sheet for due dates. Time sheets must be turned in by noon on the due date to be paid on the 25th. Late time sheets will be paid the following month.

What type of jobs are available?

Who is eligible?

Students that have Financial need and are enrolled at least half-time (6+ hours).

How do I apply?

Please follow the following steps:

1. Students will be required to fill out a FAFSA in order to qualify for the work study program which is based upon financial need.

2. Complete the Financial Aid Work Study Application to apply for a work study position Be sure to list all jobs you are interested in. Under Construction!

You must be approved by the Financial Aid Department to proceed. The Financial Aid Department will contact you via email or phone to let you know that you qualify for a work study position and you can proceed to the next step.

3. Email your current resume as an attachment to Stephanie Martin at smartin@nctc.edu.

Your Financial Aid Work Study Application and resume will be reviewed and fowarded to the appropriate NCTC departments for screening. The hiring NCTC department will call you to schedule an interview so be sure that you have a correct email and phone on your application.

On day of the interview:

Be sure to dress in business attire.

Be sure to have a copy of your resume to give to the hiring manager.

You will be required to spend time answering questions related to your skills, abiliites and people skills, if applicable.

Please arrive to your interview 5 to 10 minutes early for you interview.

Hired to Work:

If you qualify for a work study job the hiring manager will call you to let you know that you have been hired.

You must report to the Financial Aid Department and follow the steps below to complete the hiring process.

1. Download, print and complete the W-4.

2. Complete the I-9, (if applicable)

3. Read FERPA and download, print and sign FERPA Signature Page.

4. Download, print and sign Background Check Form.

5. Bring a your Social Security card and Drivers License to the Financial Aid Office.

6. Download, print and completeWork Study Appointment Sheet to your supervisor of the department you will be working with to complete.

Getting Paid

Students can work up to a maximum of 19 hours a week and are paid on the 25th of each month. Please consult your time sheet for due dates.

Work Study Time Sheet are forms verify that you have worked the alotted numbers of hours so that payment can be made to you. Time sheets must be completed by the student and submitted to his/her supervisor in by noon on the due date to be paid on the 25th. It is recommended that you keep a copy of your time sheet for your records.

FYI: Late time sheets will be paid the following month.
