North Central Texas College Horse Judging team members both past and present traveled to LaGrange this past weekend to serve as judges for the John Cook Memorial Cowboy Challenge.

The Charity event is hosted by the Cook family on their beautiful C4 ranch. Teams from all over Texas came to the event that has a history of raising up to $20,000 for various charities. The Houston Memorial Cancer Center was the beneficiary of funds this year.

The Cowboy and Cowgirl Challenge is made up of five events: a Natural Trail Obstacle Course, a Pasture Trail Course, Pasture Cattle Handling (AKA Mavericks), a Pony Express Run, and a Leggings Relay.

Each team was made up of five horses and five riders. Each horse and rider was tested on their skills in a natural trail setting, pasture tasks, working cattle, team planning, and team building as well as safety and common sense. The selection of the Top Horse was the pinnacle of the weekend.

Judges at the John Cook Memorial Cowboy Challenge included (left to right) Mario Gonzales, Kinzy Dumas, Lyndi Starr, Lissa Visconty, Amy Petry, Morgan Parker, Christy Petry, Tami Gandt, NCTC Coach Becky Terrell and Bre Henderson.
