Pursue your passion of leading and educating the next generation with a specialized degree in Child Development from NCTC. With two options for degree completion, you can choose the track you would like to take to become qualified to care for children from infancy through 8 years of age.
NCTC offers two levels of Child Development degree completion, a Level 1 Certification and an AAS Degree. Each track of study provides education and training in child development and ensures you graduate feeling well-versed in industry requirements and equipped to handle real world childcare challenges and scenarios. Plus, courses taken will also meet the requirements needed to test for the Child Development Associate (CDA) credential which helps our students stand out from their peers in the childcare and education field.
Child Development Degrees & Certificates
Child Development Certificate
The Level I Certificate in Child Development will help provide education and training for those students who want a career in child development. Through the program, students will have the opportunity to learn the requirements and responsibilities to properly care for children birth to 8 years.
Child Development AAS
The Associate of Applied Science degree in Child Development will help provide education and training for those students who want a career in child development. Through the program, students will have the opportunity to learn the requirements and responsibilities to properly care for children birth to 8 years.
Early Childhood-Grade 6, AAT
This program is designed to take 4 full semesters to complete and is comprised of the following suggested pathway or course of study. This degree can be completed either online or face-to-face, contingent on course scheduling and availability.
Grades 4-8 EC-12 Special Education, AAT
This program is designed to take 4 full semesters to complete and is comprised of the following suggested pathway or course of study. This degree can be completed either online or face-to-face, contingent on course scheduling and availability.
Grades 7-12 EC-12 Other than Special Education, AAT
This program is designed to take 4 full semesters to complete and is comprised of the following suggested pathway or course of study. This degree can be completed either online or face-to-face, contingent on course scheduling and availability.
Career Outlook
As a Preschool Teacher, you will lead students through interactive playtime and specific curriculums to help preschool aged children grasp foundational learning concepts. You will be responsible for their safety, enforcing rules and regulations to keep them happy and healthy, as well as communicating effectively with parents and legal guardians. This role often requires more in-depth educational responsibilities compared to other childcare roles.
Childcare Workers may watch children from 0 to 8-years old in a variety of settings including small businesses, daycare centers, churches, and private residences. They are responsible for ensuring a safe playing and learning environment for young children while also tending to their basic daily needs like eating, toileting, personal hygiene, and more.
