Who needs to take the TSIA2 assessment and how is this test scheduled?

All college students pursuing an Associate’s degree program* must take the new TSIA2 Assessment unless they meet one of these TSIA2 Exemptions. A student can use the following to meet their TSIA2 (Texas Success Initiative) requirement:

  • TSI Assessment scores for Reading/Writing and Math or other previous placement test scores posted on an official transcript from another Texas school

  • An earned a degree, such as an Associate’s Degree, Bachelor’s or Master's degree

  • Completed coursework at another institution that would exempt you from taking the TSI exam

  • Required ACT or SAT scores taken with 5 years of the first day for the semester in which you plan to attend

  • DD214 with Honorable discharge along with the TSI Military Exemption Waiver form.
    *If you are applying for the Fire Science/ EMS Certificate you will be required to take the TSIA2 as an entrance exam into their program.
