NCTC announces TCCTA Faculty Fellows for 2022-2023

NCTC is proud to announce the selection of History Professor Graham Cox, Math Professor Cary Crawford and Political Science Professor David Smith to serve as Texas Community College Teachers Association (TCCTA) Faculty Fellows for 2022-2023.  The Faculty Fellows Program is specifically designed for new faculty members, both full-time and adjunct, who have been teaching at the institution for five years or less. Applicants who have demonstrated leadership potential and who have expressed interest in college governance are nominated by their respective Division/Department Chairs.

TCCTA created the Faculty Fellows program to assist beginning faculty leaders in developing strategies for addressing the complex challenges currently facing our colleges and communities. Throughout the year, participants will have opportunities to network with their peers and to engage in problem solving on a state, regional and local level.  Expenses are paid to attend the fall Faculty Leaders Conference September 30-October 1, 2022 (online this year), as well as the general convention March 2-4, 2023 in Houston, Texas. Additionally, Faculty Fellows participate in legislative briefings, conversations with colleagues through Master Teacher Meet-Up groups, and web conferences on key issues in higher education.

Anna Marie Anderson and Jen Brown, 2021-2022 Faculty Fellows, both found the online Master Teacher Meet-Ups to be the “highlight of the program.” Professor Anderson especially enjoyed discussing the “differences between campus policies and departments, from responses to COVID to faculty schedules . . . (as well as) different ideas for course structures and assignments.”

Additionally, Jen Brown “appreciated the partnership we had with Adobe and was happy to learn a new platform of technology to use in my classroom. I was pleasantly surprised to find this session was extremely helpful and the program was simple to use.”

NCTC has participated in the Faculty Fellows program from its inception.  Provost Dr. Bruce King commented, “I support the program and encourage others to as well, since it is an amazing opportunity for professional growth through collaboration with colleagues across the state. Education is changing and many of the special sessions available to Fellows highlight important topics. Faculty Fellows gain knowledge that they bring back to our college and that information benefits all of us.”

By participating in the TCCTA Fellowship Program, the NCTC Faculty Fellows will be part of a vibrant group of educators who are gaining understanding of the complications of the current academic environment and are developing strategic responses to meet the challenges that lie ahead.  Congratulations to Graham Cox, Cary Crawford and David Smith as they embark upon a stimulating year of specialized leadership development!
