NCTC launches statewide course sharing initiative pilot
North Central Texas College is proud to announce the launch of its Course Sharing pilot program, starting this spring, in coordination with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB). The Course Sharing pilot program aligns the recommendations in the Texas Commission on Community College Finance Report. This project was made possible thanks to the passage of House Bill 8 and allows NCTC to expand its inter-institutional networks, promote institutional partnerships and shared services, and reduce costs and enhance operational efficiency.
Course sharing, also known as course exchange, is a collaborative, cross-institutional model that enables students at one institution to cross-register in online courses at another institution. Institutions typically participate in a consortium model, serving as a home institution (where the student is fully enrolled) and/or a teaching institution (where the course is taught).
NCTC will serve as a home and teaching institution, meaning that NCTC students can take online courses at other partner institutions without having to navigate additional registration, financial aid, and advising hurdles. Likewise, students at partnering institutions can take courses at NCTC.
NCTC administration are excited for this opportunity because students will have access to the courses they need for degree completion, degree progression, graduation, and specialized credential programs. NCTC will benefit through increased enrollment, streamlined degree/certificate completion, access to supplemental expert faculty support, and collaborative, innovative credential development opportunities.
