NCTC Foundation Celebrates Scholarship Recipients and Donors at Annual Breakfast

The North Central Texas College (NCTC) Foundation held its annual Donor Scholar Breakfast on Friday, November 8, at the Lion Gym on the Gainesville campus. This event honored scholarship recipients and their donors, providing an opportunity for students to meet and personally thank those who contributed to their scholarships. 

Phil Neely, President of the NCTC Foundation, welcomed attendees and expressed gratitude to the donors for their vital support of the scholarship program. He introduced the NCTC Foundation Board and highlighted its mission to “inspire student success by raising funds to support NCTC’s institutional priorities.” Neely emphasized the importance of the Foundation, which serves all campuses—Gainesville, Denton, Corinth, Flower Mound, Champions Circle, Bowie, and Graham. 

Cody Ford, NCTC Foundation Manager, announced that three new scholarships had been established over the past year. 

The first, the John and Karla Metzler Red River Promise Scholarship, was created by John and Karla Metzler to support the Red River Promise Program. Their contribution is helping NCTC build an endowment that ensures future generations can participate in the program. 

The second scholarship, the Mary Lou Fleitman Red River Promise Scholarship, was established by the Eddie Fleitman estate and Maryanne Fleitman in honor of their beloved daughter, Mary Lou. This scholarship will provide students from Muenster ISD with a pathway to higher education after high school. 

The third scholarship, the Gainesville Kiwanis Club Red River Promise Scholarship, was created by the Gainesville Kiwanis Club to help sustain the Promise Program for students in Cooke County.

Don McDaniel, a member of the NCTC Foundation Board, introduced two scholarship recipients, Grace Vaughan and Ashley Garza, who shared their experiences and discussed how the scholarships have supported them in achieving their educational goals. 

The breakfast concluded with remarks from NCTC Chancellor Dr. Brent Wallace, who expressed gratitude to the donors and congratulated the scholarship recipients.
