100 Hours of Community Service
Celebrating 100 Years by Serving Our Community for 100 Hours
On Friday, March 22nd, 2024, NCTC held a ‘Day of Service’ in which all staff were welcome to participate by spending the day volunteering locally. With the goal to reach a total of 100 combined community service hours in honor of NCTC’s 100-year anniversary in mind, 70 staff members total volunteered in Denton County, Cooke County, Graham, and Bowie.
Grant Announcements
NCTC received funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) through a Commercial Motor Vehicle Operational Safety (CMVOST) grant for fiscal year 2024. The funding will expand the number of commercial driver’s license (CDL) holders who have enhanced operator safety training.
The Texas Emergency Aid Roadmap Grant, funded by the Greater Texas Foundation, is coming to a close while North Central Texas College couldn’t be prouder of the impact the program made on NCTC student’s lives. North Central Texas College and nine other community colleges across the state were awarded this grant to help develop efficient, equitable, and sustainable emergency aid programs to ensure students receive the support they need to persist through financial crises.

NCTC has been invited by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to join ten Texas community colleges in launching a statewide Course Sharing program that will increase access to online courses for students enrolled in Texas colleges and universities. As part of this project, NCTC students will have the opportunity to co-enroll in partnering community colleges and complete online academic, career, and technical courses that will count towards certificate and degree completion.
North Central Texas College was named as a recipient of a Greater Texas Foundation grant to pioneer a Rural College Promise program to produce stronger and more equitable college and workforce outcomes for rural North Texas students.
Conferences & Symposiums
On October 7-9, 2021, NCTC Faculty Senate Officers attended the 41st Texas Community College Teachers Association (TCCTA) Leaders Conference. For the second year in a row, the Conference was held online and included informative presentations and opportunities for attendees to interact with colleagues from across the state.
Awards
NCTC is proud to announce the selection of full-time faculty Government Professor Jeremy Brannon and adjunct Accounting Instructor Astonida Draper to serve as Texas Community College Teachers Association Faculty Fellows for 2024-2025.
North Central Texas College is pleased to announce that the NCTC Student Success Center has been awarded certification as a Level I, II, and III certified tutor training program by the internationally recognized College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). This certification is effective from August 1, 2024, to July 31, 2028.
For the third year in a row NCTC Instructor, Doug Akins has been named a Networking Academy Instructor Excellence Expert for 2023. Professor Akins is recognized as being in the top ten percent of instructors in Cisco Networking Academy, based on learner success and course feedback. Akins earned the award in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2021, and 2022 previously.
North Central Texas College was recently awarded the 2023 Recognition of Scaling Excellence (ROSE) Award from the Texas Pathways Institute in Houston, TX.
Previously known as the Creative Writing Awards, North Central Texas College kicked off the first annual Creativity Awards on April 27th, 2023. Author, Maria Dahvana Headley, attended this event as the honorary guest speaker for the evening.
